Local Wyoming artist Mark Williams has been paying his dues in the music world for a long time now. Raised in Northeastern Wyoming he began playing guitar, singing and writing his own songs very early. Now it's over 40 years invested in picking and grinning/singing and songwriting. And I would have to say Mark has developed a way with lyrics, song dynamics and presentation of his product. A graduate of Grove Scool of Music in Los Angeles, Mark majored in Vocal with a minor in Songwriting.
He has no problems with navigating the audience through classic tunes from Hank Williams, Niel Diamond, Merle Haggard, Dan Folgelburg and spot-on renditions of Gordon Lightfoot to Elvis and many other songwriters. Each set is sprinkled with Mark's own tunes that offer up the blues/jazz/gospel feel with well crafted country love lost tunes. He does cover a lot of ground but he has a way of keeping folks right there with him. The guy is completely comfortable in front of any crowd with a touch subtle humor and great interaction with the audience. Life and the music world has created another veteran performer.
Having spent a couple winters in Kenia, Alaska where he was a frequent guest on Peninsula Saturday Night, a Radio Show broadcast from Kenia that featured local sonwriters from the Kenai Peninsula, Mark landed in Portland, Oregon for nearly 20 years.
His CD When The Lord Comes Back [offered for sale here] showcases his singing/songwriting and a variety of Portland greats such as Blues guitarist Robbie Laws [winner of 8 Handy Awards].
Mark uses a variety of guitars while performing but loves to showcase his Stonetree Jumbo Acoustic built for him by Wyoming Luithier Scott Platts of Stonetree Custom Guitars out of Saratoga, Wyoming. Mark says Scott's guitars are equal to anything out there. He likes them so much he is the owner of three Stonetree Customs.
Wyoming has some very great talents to offer. Mark Williams is one of them.
